Decorate Your Home For The Holidays

Decorating for the holidays should be part of the most wonderful time of the year, but if you don’t have a plan or if perhaps you’re over-complicating your holiday decorations, the holidays can seem like more work than they’re worth.  Fortunately, you don’t have to deck all of the halls, and even simplifying your holiday decorations can add more enjoyment to this cheerful season.

Here are some of our ways to decorate your home for the holidays simply, easily, and affordably.

Keep Your Colors Simple

Part of decorating for the holidays is adorning your home inside and out with season-appropriate colors and garnishments.  For many of us, the holidays consist of traditional fall colors in addition to the customary reds, greens, and whites of the Christmas season.

If you’re a person who likes to convert your home for the holidays with color, then consider simplifying your decorative color palate.  Choose one or two primary colors to decorate with and use different shades of those colors throughout your home and decorating scheme.  Even if you prefer the traditional reds and greens, use different shades but stay within the same color family.

Ornamental Options

Over the years, we all accumulate a number of holiday ornaments for our trees.  In fact, it’s a safe wager to assume that most people have far more ornaments than can ever adorn their beloved Christmas tree.  If you fall into the category of having too many ornaments and not enough tree, then consider some alternatives for displaying them.

Instead of hanging all of your ornaments on your Christmas tree, use some garland strung around your home as an extra staging area.  If you can incorporate lights with the garland, it will practically give you another tree to display your ornaments.  Alternatively, you can put ornaments inside mason jars, hurricane glasses, or apothecary jars for display anywhere in your home.

Lower the Lights

As the days get shorter and nights seemingly get darker, you will probably find yourself turning on the lights in your home earlier in the evening.  One way to make your home more festive is to actually replace brighter, whiter light bulbs with warmer colored lights.  Not only will this make your home feel warmer and cozier, but it’s a much more welcoming look for guests.

Additionally, if you’re of the sort who enjoys adorning your home with Christmas lights on the outside, then consider lowering your workload by strategically placing lights in places that both don’t require ladder work and make teardown easier.  Consider wrapping the trunks of trees and trim around windows around your house instead of encompassing your entire roofline with Christmas lights.

Receiving the Gift of Homeownership

Being a gracious giver is always something we strive for during the holidays, but being a gracious receiver is just as important.  If you’re looking to start saving for a home, there’s nothing wrong with letting your loved ones know that and let them know that you’d like to put their money towards much greater goals than gifts.

Perhaps this holiday season what you’re really looking for is a home to call your own and a place where you can deck the halls through and through.  If getting into a new home is part of your plan for 2020 and beyond, then get in touch with the loan experts at Tidewater Mortgage Services, Inc.  Tidewater’s loan experts can help you navigate the mortgage process while assisting you in leveraging gifted money to get into your first home!  Call today and get pre-qualified in as little as 24 hours.
